psychologist

noun

A psychologist is a person who has studied psychology that helps children and older people to improve and solve problems they may have. Their treatment often consists on talking with them about the problem that worries them.

Everything the patient says to the psychologist is confidential. Thus, the psychologist cannot talk about what was said in the patient’s room.

This word comes from the ancient Greek psyche-, meaning ‘soul, mind and spirit’, and -logist, meaning ‘the study of’.
