menstruation

noun

Menstruation is the shedding of the inner lining of the uterus that is expelled at the end of the menstrual cycle (which refers to the period between two menstrual periods, usually lasting 21 to 35 days), in the form of discharge and blood. Menstruation only takes place if there is no gestation (if you are not pregnant). Menstruation usually lasts from 3 to 7 days. Girls usually have their first menstruation between the ages of 10 and 16, known as menarche.

We typically use the word period.
