paediatrician
noun
A paediatrician is a doctor who specialises in children. You visit him to check how much you have grown or when you feel ill. Paediatricians check your weight and height, and examine your body parts, such as your ears, eyes, feet, back, belly and neck. They also recommend vaccinations to prevent illness and give you medicine if you feel unwell.
This word comes from the ancient Greek pais-, meaning ‘child’, and -iatros meaning ‘medicine, doctor’.
