A sore throat is a pain you get inside your neck, and your throat may have a hard or rough feeling when swallowing something, or it may be itchy. You may also have mucus, a cough or feel like vomiting.
When your throat is sore it may be cause by an infection. Doctors use the word tonsillitis.
