bronchitis
noun
Bronchitis is a disease in which the bronchi tubes —the tubes from which air flows through the lungs— become swollen. When you have bronchitis, you have a lot of mucus, you cough a lot, and you have difficulties in breathing. If your bronchitis is severe, you may have to be admitted to hospital for a few days and wear an oxygen mask to help you breathe.
This word comes from the ancient Greek bronch-, which means ‘windpipe’, and -itis, which means ‘inflammation’.
