disease

noun

People have a disease when they have pain in one or many parts of their body. They make you feel unwell and sometimes you have to take medicine. There are different kinds of diseases: some are serious and some are less serious, some last for a short time and some last for a longer time, some are even lifelong and are called chronic diseases. Some diseases are contagious (e.g. chicken pox) and some are not (e.g. cancer).

Sometimes the word disorder is also used.
