cast
noun
A cast is a kind of bandage made of white plaster used to immobilise a section of the body. It is soft when it is wet and as it dries it becomes harder. It is usually used when you break a bone to stop you from moving that part of your body so that the bone can heal, and sometimes you have to wear it for a long time.
Some doctors prefer to use splints in order to immobilise a part of the body. They are made from comfortable materials that weigh less than the plaster and allow you, for example, to have a bath.
We can also use the word plaster cast.
