louse

noun

A louse is a very small insect that lives in people’s hair, especially in children. It is brown, with antennae and six legs. Lice feed on blood from our head causing us small wounds. If you scratch your head, you may have lice.

Female lice lay eggs, known as nits, that will then grow up to be lice. Nits are very difficult to remove because they are stuck to our hair, with lice being very difficult to catch as they move very fast. Thus, to be removed we need to use a comb and a special liquid that kills them.
