cold
noun
A cold is a contagious disease usually caused by a virus. It can be caught at any time of the year, but it is more common to catch a cold when it is cold or very damp. A cold affects the nose, throat and chest, which can become swollen and cause you to have mucus, cough and sneeze a lot. Colds usually last for a week and normally you do not have a fever or feel too ill.
We often confuse a cold with the flu.
