antigen test

noun

An antigen test is a test we take to find out whether we have an infectious disease in our body, such as, covid-19. An antigen test requires a sample of secretions from the mucous membranes of the nose and/or throat, that is collected with a swab and placed on a test. The result can be positive or negative. A positive result has two lines and the negative one only one.

This test can be done in a medical facility, such as a hospital or an outpatient clinic, in a pharmacy or at home, and can be done by yourself or with the help of an adult. The test result is analysed very quickly at the same place where the test is performed (at the medical centre, pharmacy or at home).

The antigen test can also be called antigen test, antigenic test, rapid antigen test or RAT, which stands for rapid antigenic test.
