A burn is a skin injury caused by the sun, by fire or by touching a very hot object such as a plugged-in iron. Severe burns, such as those caused by fire, often leave marks on your skin and are very painful. When you get burned, it is important not to put anything on your skin or just apply water, as well as going as quickly as possible to an outpatients clinic or hospital.
