cough

noun

A cough is the noise you make when you expel air out of your lungs through your mouth. If you have a cough, your throat may be sore, and you often have mucus. You can spread a disease to someone else by coughing. To avoid this, when you cough you cover your mouth with your hand or arm, and to stop coughing, sometimes you may need to take a syrup or pills.

You may have a cough because you have a cold, the flu, allergies or something strange in your throat.
