thermometer

noun

A thermometer is a device for measuring body temperature. It is used to tell if a person has a fever or not. If you have a temperature of 38 degrees or more, you have a fever and thus, are ill. If you have a temperature of 36 degrees or less, you do not have a fever. If you are between 37 and 38 degrees, you have a slight fever (febrile fever).

The thermometer is usually placed under the armpit. It is usually digital and has a display where you can see how many degrees you have.

In the USA they use Fahrenheit to measure degrees, with 36°C = 96.8°F and 38°C = 100,4°F.
