antibiotic

noun

An antibiotic is a medicine made from tiny bugs or microbes (called bacteria), which cures diseases that are also caused by bacteria, such as ear infections or pneumonia. The antibiotic attacks the bacteria and kills or stops them from working. But antibiotics cannot kill viruses, which is why they cannot cure most colds. Antibiotics can be taken in the form of syrups, pills and cream or be directly injected into the body with a syringe.

Penicillin was the first invented antibiotic.
