atopic skin
noun
Atopic skin is a disease characterised by very dry skin. with red, itchy patches on areas such as the arms, legs or knees. Air conditioning, swimming pool chlorine, extreme cold or hot temperatures can promote the appearance of red patches. Children with asthma or allergies are more likely to have atopic skin. When we have atopic skin, we use special soaps, moisturise our skin with cream and wear loose, cotton clothing to allow the skin to breathe.
We also use a more specialised word, known as atopic eczema.
