face mask

A face mask is a rectangular piece – made of cloth or other materials- that is used to cover our mouth, nose and chin. Its main function is to protect us from some diseases, such as covid-19, as it prevents us from infecting one another. Thus, to protect us, it must be worn properly, by covering both the mouth and nose.

There are different types of face masks, made of different materials and colours. The most protective are the filtering face masks (known as FFP), which prevent you from catching the infection, but also prevent the others from infecting you. We then have the surgical ones, which are good for not infecting others, and in third place, the hygienic and fabric hygienic ones, which provide little protection.

Face masks are a bit uncomfortable, as they require you to cover your mouth and it is difficult to breathe properly. Doctors, nurses and dentists often use them, but during the covid-19 pandemic we all had to wear them.

Some countries may have other names for face masks, such as mouth mask, chin mask or nasal mask.
